Club Canning - my last night in Buenos Aires.
Fabian Peralta and Virginia Pandolfi at Canning.
Rain, rain, rain
To much excitement for one day
Buenos Aires is a big city with a lot of people, 13 million to be more exact. In part because of that, it is not the safest city in the world, for tourists and locals alike. You have to be careful where you go, same as in any other big city in the world. Lately, things got a bit worse, in part because of the high prices and cost of living. Today I’m deciding to go to a class in Avenida...
Hot, hot, hot
Time goes fast and it is already February. The temperatures where quite constant, from 35 degrees to 39 degrees. In fact, the last three days Buenos Aires had a wave of 38 degrees and at the milongas people were dripping with sweat. Usually at any milonga tango dancers come and stay from three to five hours but now because of the heat a majority of people leave after three hours or even less. I...

Back in San Telmo
35 degrees
It is Sunday and what a beautiful day. Monica is back in Vancouver and I’m sure she’s already missing the many friends we made here.
Milongas are great, always packed with people even though the temperatures are between 35 and 39 degrees. Tonight I’ll probably go to El Beso milonga.
Right now I want to take advantage of this beautiful day and browse the markets again....

San Telmo
Sunday I went to see Plaza Dorego in San Telmo. Very picturesque place with lots of vendors and after we watched ‘El Indio’ doing his number we ate at a nearby restaurant. While eating, we watched another tango show right in the restaurant and found out that the girl who performed was from California. And so we added a new name to the list of friends that we made in Buenos Aires.
On...
DAKAR RACE 2
DAKAR RACE 1
Buenos Aires crowds give DAKAR crews a huge...
Hundreds of thousands of people have lined the roads out of Buenos Aires, farewelling the 372 vehicles competing in the Dakar Rally – considered to be the most dangerous race on the planet.
The action begins tomorrow, with a 684km stage to Córdoba and we’ll be there.
Drivers then head to La Rioja and Fiambalá in Argentina before going to Copiapó, Chile, on January 5. From there to...
La Viruta party
OK. It is officially 2010 and we are here. What a great place to dance. Luckily Lucio reserved a table. The DJ had a mix of music from salsa and disco to tango. We had a really great time. I don’t remember to dance on all kind of music since I was in High School.
The party took place until almost 7:00 AM. It was strange to get out of the place in day light. I took few pictures and a short...

Bits and bites...
Gabriel: Lately I didn’t bring my camera with me so not much to post but found to nice pictures while dounloading staff from it. In one of them you can see our canadian mascot that accompanied us all the way to Buenos Aires. Monica bought it in the airport.
So, a day ago we went to Sunderland on Lorenzo Lugones 3161. A great place, very traditional but very far. We came here twice...
Patio Bullrich in Recoleta.

Where the time goes
Gabriel: time goes so fast, is like I arrived yesterday. With so much going on all the time and the heat, I’m really getting tired. Need to schedule everything better. I already started to go to only one milonga per night instead of two. I also started to take the subway most of the time. It is so much cheaper and so convenient. Taxis are not what they use to be, 8 or 10 pesos. Taking a cab...
Marion hijacks Gabi's blog...
Marion: I arrived in Buenos Aires a few days before Gabriel and Monica and a few days after Lucio. It has been so much fun and in the first 7 days I took in 10 milongas!! Lucio was my chaperone for a few of them because he speaks spanish and knows the city. After 7 days I still don’t have my bearings and direction. I keep getting turned around. Somehow they don’t print the maps the way...
Konex time
All is good, after the fantastic night at Konex we were getting ready for Christmas party. Here they celebrate on the 24th. I’m behind with the blog one day so now I’m trying to catch up.
We all went to Canning where a Potluck and milonga was organized. It was very nice. It started slow but after one o’clock people started to come in and by two o’clock the place was...
Great performances with Naveira’s kids Fernando Galera and Vilma Vega.
It is performance time.
Milonga en Konex with orquesta “Ojos de Tango”. We had a great time, with birthday champagne, lots of dancing on live music and good friends. A perfect night.
At Porteño y bailarín; the famous singer Alberto Podesta
Special moments
Gabriel: cloudy today, no sun and 25 degrees according to my computer. Last night we went to Porteño y bailarín milonga. It was a special night. The famous singer Alberto Podesta gave a performance and it was magic. I wish I could have captured the entire show but I’ll try to upload at least one or two video clips. Not sure where we’ll go today. I’ll try to contact Lucio, maybe...
Another day
The milongas are great, lots of people even though there is almost 25 degrees outside and this is at 1:00 AM. Didn’t get a chance to see a tango show yet. It is great to see Lucio and Marianne (both from Vancouver) from time to time. We brainstorm about where might be the best milonga for the night. It is time I upload some pictures. Maybe the next days.
Very cold
Gabriel: almost ready for the trip. It is cold in Vancouver. OK, I’m not complaining. Just found out that in Calgary is twice as cold. I keep thinking how warm is going to be in Buenos Aires. I love the hot weather. The idea to go and dance in the milongas in Buenos Aires makes me feel really good.
